The Conjuring Universe began in 2013 with the release of "The Conjuring," directed by James Wan. The film follows paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren as they help the Perron family deal with supernatural occurrences in their farmhouse.
The franchise has since expanded to include multiple sequels and spin-offs, including Annabelle, The Nun, and The Curse of La Llorona, making it one of the most successful horror franchises in history.
Many of the stories in The Conjuring Universe are based on the case files of Ed and Lorraine Warren, renowned demonologists and paranormal investigators who documented numerous supernatural occurrences throughout their careers.
Their most famous cases include the Amityville Horror, the Annabelle doll, and the Enfield Poltergeist, which have all been featured or referenced in the franchise.
Ed and Lorraine Warren established the Warren Occult Museum in Monroe, Connecticut, which became known as the oldest and only museum of its kind. The museum housed their collection of haunted artifacts and items from their paranormal investigations, including the real Annabelle doll (a Raggedy Ann doll, unlike its movie counterpart) which was kept in a specially blessed glass case.
The museum was located in the basement of their house and contained dozens of allegedly haunted or cursed objects that the Warrens had collected during their investigations. Each item in the museum had its own haunting story, from cursed mirrors to tribal masks. The museum was a testament to their lifelong work investigating paranormal phenomena, though it closed to the public in 2019 due to zoning regulations.
